On yesterday’s radio show, Michael Medved indicated that in the latest Gallup poll 73 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the way ‘things are going” in the country. He was dismayed by these numbers and gave some examples of why people should rather be satisfied. Included in these “blessings” were things like home ownership and the large square footage of our houses. All concerned (as is Mr. Medved usually) with the materialistic possessions and their correlation to happiness. What this simpleton fails to recognize, is that material possessions do not make people happy. If we look at the country in terms of an individual, we see a person in severe debt who continues to borrow who has no real hope of a financial recover. His (social security) IRA is in jeopardy of becoming worthless, his windows are always open to the creeping foreigners, and he is the target of a potential attack from even people who are residing with him. He has beaten up the local weakling and caused the rest of his apartment complex neighbors despise him. His relatives are divided in two on almost every issue that effects his living conditions and he has a majority of neighbors who can’t pay their rent and are getting evicted. Wow - is he ever blessed. Should he be thankful and happy? No - this individual is ready for Prozac and so are we Americans.
